Jupiter 1000 - e-methane production has started
Since 2020, thanks to its Jupiter 1000 industrial demonstrator, GRTgaz has been converting wind-generated electricity into renewable hydrogen for injection into the gas transmission network.
A new milestone was reached in July 2022: the biogas plant produced its first methane molecules using bottled CO2. The project partners are fine-tuning the process. CO2 capture and the associated pipeline will soon be able to supply it with recycled CO2 and a new phase in the production of synthetic methane will have been reached. This has a dual advantage: the e-methane thus produced recycles the CO2 and, by replacing the natural gas, on average it cuts in half carbon-dioxide emissions into the atmosphere!
