Pioneering regions for hydrogen-powered trains
France’s four pioneering regions: Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes, Burgundy - Franche-Comté, Grand Est and Occitania
This initiative is a first of its kind in France and an important step towards the decarbonisation of the French rail network. Four pioneering regions (Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes, Burgundy - Franche-Comté, Grand Est and Occitania) have ordered 12 bi-mode trains powered by electricity or hydrogen for their regional express transport system (TER). The new trains are scheduled to enter commercial circulation from the end of 2025, with the TERs in question achieving zero direct CO2 emissions as a result.
