PlaneTerr project
To achieve the objectives related to carbon neutrality, the development of renewable energies and the electrification of uses, it is essential that the development of flexibilities is promoted as a means of balancing energy systems.
This is the aim of the “PlaneTerr” research and development project, financed by the French government as part of the France 2030 plan, operated by ADEME.
The project, which is part of the “Advanced Energy Systems Technologies” acceleration strategy of the France 2030 investment plan, will bring together the expertise of GRTgaz, RTE, TotalEnergies, Air Liquide and Mines Paris PSL.
The programme will seek to illustrate the potential offered by flexibilities on the network, including, in particular, the preparation of specific studies on hydrogen production systems with Air Liquide, line packing in gas pipelines, and the CO2 chain with RICE, GRTgaz’s Research and Innovation Centre for Energy.
The project will also focus on:
- developing a multi-energy modelling and planning tool to implement sectoral coupling and highlight the way in which new uses of energy can contribute to flexibilities,
- and setting up two on-site demonstrators, in particular – an electric vehicle charging platform and a thermal storage system orchestrated by TotalEnergies.
This huge undertaking began in September and will run for four years.
