A working group of 27 partners (water treatment companies, equipment manufacturers, developers, consultancy firms, etc.) was set up by GRTgaz to support local authorities in producing renewable gas from wet waste and to establish a national framework for this “hydrothermal gasification” sector.

This extremely clean new technology, which does not generate any atmospheric pollutants, produces renewable gas from wet biomass waste and residues as part of a circular economy. At the same time, it recovers water, mineral salts and nitrogen that can be used as fertilizers. The first industrial projects are expected in 2025. The working group will thus contribute to expanding the energy transition in the regions and enable the local recovery of organic effluents such as sludge from water treatment plants.
