“Organic Advertising”: a trailblazing poster that can run a bus!
GRTgaz decided to enhance its presence at the Salon des Maires et des Collectivités Locales trade fair this year with “Organic Advertising”, an original creation for the “City of Tomorrow” Lab. Manufactured entirely from organic materials (waste, food waste, etc.), this “living poster” will be transformed into biogas at the end of the show when it is recovered by the company Moulinot and methanised to produce renewable gas. “Organic Advertising” will take place during European Waste Reduction Week. It aims to engage trade fair atendees about the often little-known benefits of the ways that the contents of our bins are recycled.
“Organic Advertising” takes the form of a 5-metre by 1.65-metre billboard depicting waste (apple cores, tomato peels, leftover pizza, cheese mould, etc.) made from food scraps and unsold market items in the form of little cubes. Using real decomposing materials, this trailblazing creation aims to make as many people as possible aware of the benefits that anaerobic digestion can bring to the regions. This technology recovers materials such as livestock effluent, green waste and crop residues, as well as everyday bio-waste. The process produces a renewable gas - biogas - that can be injected into the network after purification, and a residue - digestate - that can be substituted for chemical fertilisers.
Once injected into the networks, biogas is a reliable and manageable renewable energy that meets the needs of both domestic (heating, cooking, domestic hot water) and industrial uses. It also has the advantage of being able to be stored for future consumption. BioNGV can be used as an alternative fuel for vehicles (heavy goods vehicles, buses, light commercial vehicles, etc.). It emits up to 80% less CO2 compared to regular vehicles, and almost no fine particles. Increasingly, gas is seen not only as a renewable energy but also as a source of new solutions for local authorities inspired by the circular economy. It provides a way for them to rethink their waste treatment, territorial revitalisation and alternative mobility policies.
“Organic advertising” is part of the “Le Gaz. L’Energie des Possibles.” [“Gas: the Energy of Possibilities”] campaign. Launched in October 2017, this GRTgaz initiative presents all the advantages of renewable gas and highlights actions undertaken in the regions by farmers, entrepreneurs, local authorities, researchers, etc. For more information see gazenergiedespossibles.fr. GRTgaz will also run a K50 stand in Pavilion 3 to welcome visitors and hold discussions about the various renewable gas sectors (anaerobic digestion, pyro-gasification, hydrothermal gasification, etc.).
