2020 International Agricultural Show

From 22 February to 1 March 2020, GRTgaz will be present at the International Agricultural Show (SIA) to raise visitors’ awareness of the advantages of biogas, discuss regional issues surrounding the development of this renewable energy, and further the debate on the challenges facing the sector.

Biogaz Café: a discussion space and an extended menu

GRTgaz is once again opening the doors to the “Biogaz Café” (Pavilion 4, Stand D055), a welcoming space in which to answer questions from the general public or farmers about anaerobic digestion, talk with project leaders whose initiatives are already underway, and more broadly to fuel the debate on the development of biogas in France.

A Biogaz Café workshop programme will be offered, organised jointly with the association France Gaz Renouvelable

presentation of infometha.org, an educational site presenting the benefits and constraints of properly performed anaerobic digestion supported by scientific studies and publications.

Workshop: “The Right to Injection: what you need to know about the latest regulatory changes and the role of network operators".

Workshop: “The benefits of anaerobic digestion: what are we talking about?”.

Workshops: “Farmer-Biomethane producer: some initial feedback”.

Over the course of two weekends at the show (22-23/02 and 29/02-01/03), TV Agri and Fréquence ESJ will broadcast a discussion programme from the Biogaz Café on the themes linking the agricultural and energy spheres (anaerobic digestion, biogas, innovation, environment, etc.).

Anaerobic digestion at the Thoiry Bioénergie site of livestock effluents collected from the SIA

After a successful first attempt in 2019, the show is renewing the operation to recover a portion of the livestock effluents from SIA pavilion 1 ("Livestock Farming and its Sectors") in the form of biogas. This GRTgaz-designed initiative is being implemented with Thoiry Bioénergie (Yvelines), which collects these inputs to methanise them and produce renewable gas.

There will be two collections: one after the mid-week cattle rotation and then again at the end of the show. In 2019, more than 200 tonnes of manure were transported to the Thoiry Bioénergie site to produce biogas, which was then injected into the GRDF network and used to provide the male giraffe enclosure at the Thoiry Zoo African Reserve with one year’s worth of heat.
